16 February 2009 DSA scheme may help young comprehensive car insurance holders

DSA: More needs to be done to protect young drivers Young motorists who are keen to see the cost of their comprehensive car insurance drop as quickly as possible may be interested in a scheme being run by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA).

The group is encouraging schools and colleges around the country to sign up for one of its Arrive Alive presentations.

It stated this half term offers the perfect opportunity for educational establishments to book a free talk from a driving examiner, aimed at helping to keep teenagers safe behind the wheel.

Statistics provided by DSA showed 136 motorists aged 19 and under died on UK roads in 2007.

Rosemary Thew from the group commented: "It is a sad fact that one in five deaths on British roads involve newly-qualified drivers.

"They are certainly one of the most vulnerable groups out on the roads today."

Last year, DSA suggested taking an advanced driving course - like Pass Plus - could be beneficial for new motorists.
