12 February 2009 VW may impress van insurance customers
Van insurance customers who like to support companies that demonstrate a commitment to road safety may be impressed by Volkswagen.The company recently announced it has become a member of TyreSafe - making it the first vehicle manufacturer to sign up.
It explained it was keen to help organisations like TyreSafe emphasise the importance of tyre maintenance and responsible motoring.
Tim Peacock, aftersales product manager, commented: "Our decision to become members reflects our commitment to the safety of our customers and other road users."
All the brands which fall under the Volkswagen banner have agreed to the move and will help TyreSafe with its campaigns.
Volkswagen group companies include Seat, Skoda and Audi.
Drivers who do not take car of their tyres may be risking a van insurance claim.
If a vehicle is deemed to be unroadworthy because of the state of the tyres, an insurance provider may refuse to pay out.
