11 February 2009 Third party insurance holders warned bad weather may not be over
Third party insurance customers who appreciate an accident could prove costly should prepare for more bad weather, it has been suggested.According to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), the UK may be hit by further unfavourable conditions over the coming weeks and drivers need to plan ahead.
Chief examiner Peter Rodger commented: "In the last week, poorly-prepared drivers and vehicles have ended up stranded by driving conditions for which they had little or no experience."
In the event of more snow, IAM stated motorists needed to get their speed just right.
The group explained driving too slowly can lead to people getting stuck, while travelling too quickly can result in them losing control of their vehicle.
Meanwhile, motorists getting behind the wheel in heavy rain were urged to keep their demisters on and avoid standing water where possible.
Third party insurance customers who have a crash in bad weather may find they have to shell out for any damage to their own car.
