11 February 2009 Drivers offered car-care advice

Motorists encouraged to take cars in for winter servicing Motorists who do not want to jeopardise the cheap comprehensive car insurance premiums they have managed to secure may want to follow advice from the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF).

According to the group, there are certain things vehicle owners can do to ensure their motors get them safely through the winter.

It recommended drivers check their batteries are working properly, replace ineffective windscreen wipers and make sure they only use anti-freeze which is less than two years old.

The organisation also suggested motorists take their cars for a professional service.

RMIF director Sue Robinson explained: "There are many elements within a car that will need the kind of professional attention that only a garage can provide."

She also encouraged vehicle owners to choose an RMIF-approved firm, claiming this would offer valuable peace of mind.

In other news, the group recently claimed if the government wanted to help tempt car insurance holders back into vehicle showrooms it would have to improve consumer confidence.
