09 February 2009 New advice may benefit third party insurance customers

IAM: Brits unused to driving in snow Third party insurance holders who realise an accident caused by the snow could prove expensive may do well to heed advice from the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).

According to the group, it is vital drivers learn lessons from last week's bad weather.

It issued this warning after predictions that more snow will arrive in the coming days.

Peter Rodger, chief examiner with IAM, said: "Many of the disruptions on roads during last week's winter weather were caused by drivers failing to manage the unfamiliar conditions."

He added people could improve their chances of getting from A to B safely by preparing themselves and their vehicles in advance.

IAM suggested motorists allow additional time for journeys and opt to use major roads and avoid steep hills wherever possible.

Meanwhile, the group recently suggested the number of serious car insurance claims could be reduced by the widespread adoption of Intelligent Speed Adaptation.
