09 February 2009 Home insurance customers warned about bogus officials
Home insurance customers in West Yorkshire who are keen to avoid the hassle of making a claim may be well-advised to take on board a warning from police in the area.Officers are urging residents to be wary of opening the door to strangers, after two recent burglaries.
They explained thieves posing as Water Board officials forced their way into the homes of two elderly victims in Halifax.
Acting Inspector Chris Norbury from the Upper Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "It is very important that if people call at your door and you are unsure as to who they are, you refuse entry and contact the police."
He added people in the area should look out for vulnerable neighbours, friends and family members.
Elsewhere in West Yorkshire, police recently produced an online video in a bid to track down the owners of a haul of push-bikes they believe have been stolen from people living in Leeds.
