06 February 2009 Failing to look after motors 'could result in car insurance claims'
Motorists who put off getting their vehicle serviced could end up having to make a car insurance claim, it has been suggested.According to General Motors, it is particularly important to ensure all models are in tip-top condition in winter when driving conditions can be particularly treacherous.
It stated failing to do so was a false economy.
The group issued this warning in light of statistics from YouGov which revealed some 13 per cent of motorists delayed getting car repair work carried out in 2008 in a bid to cut costs.
General Motors urged owners of its cars to take advantage of its winter safety check and top up.
It explained, for £35, people could have their vehicles checked over - inside and out - by a trained technician.
In January, the company reminded owners of Chevrolets, Saabs and Vauxhalls they may be eligible to sign up for its free accident support service.
