06 February 2009 Government funding may be good news for van insurance holders
Van insurance customers who have previously had to shell out to repair damage to their vehicles caused by poorly maintained roads may welcome a recent government announcement.Earlier this week, the Department for Transport revealed it had set aside some £66 million for local councils to invest in making life easier for motorists.
Transport minister Paul Clark said the money will be spent on improvements such as flood protection, resurfacing, bridge maintenance and street lighting.
He claimed the investment should benefit individual drivers and businesses alike.
Mr Clark added: "High quality local road networks are vital to communities - connecting people with work, shops, services, families and friends."
Councils are scheduled to receive the first £32 million in April and the rest is due to be handed over in the same month next year.
Meanwhile, the Department for Transport recently announced the launch of a campaign designed to remind motorists about the dangers of speeding.
