29 January 2009 Car insurance industry 'has welcomed Kitemark'

The industry 'has welcomed the Kitemark' The car insurance industry has welcomed the Kitemark scheme for car body shops, a motoring expert said this week.

Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Quentin Willson - former Top Gear presenter - said car buyers should keep in mind certain things when purchasing a vehicle, such as if the dealer is a member of a motoring federation and whether they practice good standards.

However, the Kitemark garage and car body shop initiatives help to "rigorously" test and audit products, he added.

"It's all in the forward planning ... knowing if the product has been tested and if the operator cares about their reputation, standards, doing the right job and all that old fashioned stuff."

Willson also said achieving a fair deal when buying a car is just about using common sense.

His comments on the subject follow recent research from Consumer Direct, which found that last year the most common complaint it received was about second-hand cars bought from independent dealers.
