28 January 2009 Fiat 500 wins more awards

The Fiat 500 won an award this week Fiat has said it is "delighted" after winning BusinessCar magazine's City Car of the Year Award.

The prize – decided by the publication's readers – follows other accolades for the 500, including Car of the Year 2008, Auto Express' Best City Car 2008 and Fifth Gear's Small Car of the Year.

BusinessCar editor-in-chief Tristan Young said it "has captured both hearts and minds" since it was unveiled.

"The low emissions and great running costs combine with the 500's desirability to make a worthy winner," he added.

Drivers looking for ways to reduce their car insurance premiums may be interested in the Fiat 500's choice of engines. Described as "frugal" by the manufacturer, buyers can opt for a 69bhp 1.2-litre, a 100bhp 1.4-litre petrol or 75bhp 1.3-litre MultiJet turbodiesel engine.

Last month, Fiat's Panda Cross won 4x4 and MPV Driver magazine's 4x4 of the Year 2009 award.
