However, the organisation believes it is offering some ideal romantic gifts for car insurance customers in the form of personalised plates.

It is expecting a surge in customer demand during the build up to Valentine's Day and has set up a new feature on its website designed to help customers find a number that is just that bit more special for their loved one.

Damian Lawson, the organisation's marketing manager, said: "While the regular plates featuring Xs and K155 are there to be had, the new search system ensures that extra personal touch - in a flash."

Even if the romantic gesture flops, a personalised number plate could prove to be a wise investment. Last year, Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly paid £150,000 to secure the registration CR7.
