26 January 2009 Have confidence at your car's MOT, says Kwik-Fit

Don't be nervous when going for an MOT, says Kwik-Fit Drivers should have confidence when taking their car for its first MOT because 67 per cent of vehicles pass on their first go, it was stated today.

Citing statistics from Vosa, Kwik-Fit reported on a trend that may become less popular this year due to the financial downturn.

It said a certain group of drivers - "MOT virgins" - have never owned a car for a long enough period to warrant this type of test.

Although every vehicle is required to have an MOT after three years, these motorists swap their wheels so often that they never actually have to take it for one.

However, the economic slowdown may cause more to hold on to older cars for longer, meaning an increased number of first-timers will be visiting the garage for an MOT.

"With new car sales sliding, 2009 looks set to be the year that MOT virgins come of age," remarked Kwik-Fit's customer services director David White.

At the same time as arranging an appointment for this kind of motoring audit, drivers might want to add breakdown cover to their list in order to minimise payouts should a fault occur.
