16 January 2009 Scottish drivers 'should be conscious of changeable weather'
Motorists in Scotland keen to avoid a car insurance claim may benefit from taking on board advice from Tayside police. The force has urged drivers to be conscious of the changeable weather conditions often experienced at this time of year and adjust their behaviour behind the wheel accordingly.
It made this statement following a number of early morning accidents which it believes were the result of a recent dip in temperature.
Officers advised, by taking certain precautions, drivers can cut their chances of being involved in traffic collisions.
Chief Inspector Sandy Bowman from Tayside police said: "Maintenance is key and ensuring that the vehicle is serviced correctly is extremely important."
He claimed: "Brakes, tyres, lights, batteries, windscreens and wiper blades must be in good working order."
Meanwhile, the force recently announced that during its recent four-week festive road safety campaign, some 43 drivers were found to be over the drink-drive limit.
