The small engine may mean the vehicle qualifies for low cost car insurance, while the fact it is capable of 83.1 mpg could help buyers make savings at the pump.
Drivers keen to go green may also be impressed by figures from smart which show the model offers the lowest CO2 emissions of any current production car - at 88 g/km.
Managing director at Mercedes-Benz UK Dermot Kelly said the manufacturer's "reputation for affordability and economy is growing and the range is being considered by an increasing number of motorists who are seeking to reduce their motoring costs".
