05 January 2009 ISA 'may not cut car insurance claims'

ABD: ISA could lead to foot-to-the-floor driving The number of third party and comprehensive car insurance claims made in the UK will not necessarily fall if Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) is introduced, it has been suggested.

According to the Association of British Drivers (ABD), a report which said the technology could cut road deaths and injuries by as much as 29 per cent is inaccurate.

The government's Motorists' Forum has recommended widespread adoption of ISA.

However, ABD warned if drivers were automatically prevented from breaking the speed limit, it may encourage "foot-to-the-floor driving" - which could lead to more accidents and motor insurance claims.

Spokesman Nigel Humphries stated: "The speed of a vehicle is rarely the cause of an accident and the correct speed for the prevailing road conditions cannot be set by a number on a stick."

Meanwhile, ABD recently welcomed the rejection of a proposed congestion charge in Greater Manchester.
