24 December 2008 Family rows on the road 'could lead to car insurance claims'

Familes urged not to row on the road Motorists who want to ensure they do not lose access to cheap car insurance may be well-advised to refuse family members lifts this Christmas, if the results of a recent survey are anything to go by.

Research by the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) found three in ten drivers aged between 18 and 24 thought they were as likely to argue with loved ones on the road as around the dinner table during the festive season.

Some of those questioned admitted they chose to bring up tricky subjects in the car because they knew family members had no choice but to listen.

However, ETA warned against doing this.

Director of the group Andrew Davis pointed out: "While family disagreements at Christmas might be as traditional as repeats on television and turkey sandwiches, rows on the road can make driving inefficient, erratic or just plain dangerous."

Meanwhile, ETA recently reported that a number of Stagecoach buses are to be turned into speed traps, with flashing signs which illuminate if the vehicle behind is speeding or tailgating.
