23 December 2008 People with third party insurance 'could be making a costly mistake'
Motorists with third party insurance may end up having to shell out for expensive car repairs because they are failing to carry out basic maintenance, it has been suggested.Auto Windscreens warned motorists could be storing up problems for themselves in the future by neglecting to look after their vehicles properly now.
It made these comments after conducting research which showed 77 per cent of drivers do not conduct safety checks before embarking on long journeys.
The study also revealed 25 per cent of motorists do not replace worn tyres, while 29 per cent delay when it comes to fixing faulty brake lights.
In addition, it found 47 per cent of vehicle owners do not get chips in windscreens repaired immediately, with 26 per cent admitting they would wait until a crack developed to do anything.
Abu Haris-Shafi, managing director at Auto Windscreens, said: "With the huge amounts of miles travelled at Christmas, drivers simply can't afford to ignore essential car maintenance."
