18 December 2008 Women drivers 'should protect their car insurance'

Police to watch over car parks this Christmas Female motorists who have secured a good deal on women's car insurance may be well-advised to be on their guard this Christmas if they do not want to see their premiums rise.

According to West Yorkshire police, opportunist thieves are on the look-out for vehicle laden with presents.

Officers in north Bradford and Airedale have revealed they will be conducting extra patrols in car parks to discourage criminals from breaking into cars.

However, motorists are being urged to do all they can to make themselves less vulnerable.

Chief Inspector Mick Hanks stated: "We would advise all drivers to make sure their cars are securely locked with nothing on display."

He also warned people not to dump presents in their vehicles before heading back to the shops, warning this could be "a real gift for criminals".

Elsewhere in West Yorkshire, police officers in Leeds have been giving out free cloths to car owners in order to encourage them to wipe away satnav marks from their windscreens.
