16 December 2008 Insurers 'expect motorists to maintain vehicles properly'
Drivers who want to ensure they receive all the support required from their car insurance provider in the event of an accident should keep their vehicles in tip-top condition, it has been claimed.According to Car Parts Direct, people should not assume a valid MOT certificate automatically means their motor is fit to be on the road.
Spokesperson Mark Conwell stated an MOT certificate simply shows a car met the necessary legal requirements on the day the test was carried out.
He added: "If a suspension coil snaps on a speed bump the day after an MOT, the car is no longer roadworthy."
Car Parts Direct's website includes a checklist to help drivers ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and also features videos demonstrating how motorists can replace items such as wiper blades and shock absorbers.
Meanwhile, the company recently predicted more Brits would breakdown this winter, as an increasing number of vehicle owners are skipping vehicle services than in previous years.
