15 December 2008 More people charged for making fraudulent car insurance claims
Motorists who have deliberately caused road accidents with the intention of lodging fraudulent car insurance claims are being brought to book in Greater Manchester, it has been reported.Police in the area announced they had arrested another five individuals as part of Operation Contact.
The men are due to face charges of conspiracy to commit fraud at Stockport Magistrates Court on Thursday 18th December.
In total, 18 people have been charged as part of the operation so far - which is being conducted in Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire.
Eight suspects are scheduled to attend Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing later this month.
According to the force, specialist officers are still investigating hundreds of other collisions in the area as well.
Meanwhile, Greater Manchester police recently revealed they would be varying out spot checks of drivers at peak times and testing for drink and drugs.
