12 December 2008 Police 'determined to catch drivers without car insurance'

Police crack down on uninsured motorists A couple of motorists in Bracknell had their vehicles seized last week because they were caught driving without car insurance, it has been reported.

Thames Valley police stopped the two drivers during an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) operation.

As well as each receiving an on-the-spot £200 fine, the motorists will also have their licences endorsed with six penalty points.

Commenting on the ANPR initiative, PC Michael Foot said Thames Valley police was determined to make life difficult for uninsured drivers.

"Our message is quite clear - you must ensure your vehicle is road legal otherwise you could end up losing it," he stated.

If the two motorists stopped in Bracknell do not pay for their cars to be released from the compound where they are currently being held, the vehicles will be crushed.

Meanwhile, an anti drink-drive campaign launched in recent weeks by Thames Valley police could see car insurance claims in the area fall this winter.
