10 December 2008 Local garage could help cut car insurance claims in Wycombe
Car insurance claims in Wycombe could be cut as the result of a new scheme.A local garage and the Community Safety Partnership have joined forces in a bid to crackdown on vehicle crime in the town.
Motorists who take their cars for a service of MOT checks at Downley Garage will have security screws fitted to their licence plates.
The police explained this should prevent thieves stealing registration plates and going on to use them in other criminal activities.
Inspector Russ Murden explained such plates were often used by offenders who steal fuel from garages.
He added when this happened it could often prove problematic for the legitimate owners.
"The screw will prevent plates from being stolen and will hopefully act as a deterrent too," Inspector Murden stated.
Elsewhere in the region, the Safer Communities Partnership in west Oxfordshire has launched a roadshow which urges motorists not to leave valuables on display in unattended cars.
