10 December 2008 Police giveaway could cut car insurance claims
Police in Leeds are handing out free cloths this week in a campaign against vehicle crime, which could see a fall in the number of car insurance claims made in the city.Officers are urging motorists with satnavs to make sure they wipe away any suction marks left by the devices on windscreens and dashboards when leaving their vehicles unattended.
They claimed this will reduce their chances of being targeted by thieves.
Sergeant Paul Cliffe from West Yorkshire police said motorists should remove any trace of their satnav and take it with them whenever they leave their vehicle.
He acknowledged this could take drivers a few extra minutes but added it was "nothing against the cost and inconvenience of having your car broken into".
The giveaway is due to take place outside Morrisons supermarket in Bramley on Thursday December 11th.
Meanwhile, West Yorkshire police recently launched their Christmas anti drink-drive campaign.
