10 December 2008 School pupils' assembly could help cut home insurance claims
Schoolchildren in West Yorkshire have been helping the police with their crackdown on bogus callers - in a move which could see a fall in the number of home insurance claims in the area.Pupils at Flockton First School in the Huddersfield district worked with officers to produce an assembly urging locals to be wary of strangers who turn up on their doorsteps.
This comes after a number of incidents in the village - during which suspected thieves posed as officials - were reported to police.
Commenting on the assembly, police community support officer Judith Brimicombe said: "The children were great and did little scenarios showing how to and how not to answer the door to someone they don't know."
The pupils also produced a leaflet and designed their own logo to accompany the campaign.
Earlier this month, West Yorkshire police were appealing for witnesses to a burglary in Bradford, where three suspects posed as officials.
