09 December 2008 Poor maintenance could lead to a car insurance claim

Drivers urged to get cars serviced regularly Drivers who skimp on vehicle maintenance could end up having to make a car insurance claim this winter, it has been suggested.

Car Parts Direct reported an increasing number of motorists are failing to give their motors the attention they require to function properly.

Research by the company revealed 36 per cent of vehicle owners do not service their cars as regularly as is generally recommended.

The firm warned this could lead to more breakdowns and accidents in the coming months.

Speaking on behalf of the company, Mark Cornwall said: "Motorists are working on the assumption that if their car is not broken, why fix it."

However, he warned: "Most major repairs and breakdowns happen because basic checks and maintenance are ignored."

In related news, Car Parts Direct recently claimed a growing number of motorists were turning to do-it-yourself repairs as a way of saving money during the current economic downturn.
