Van insurance customers considering updating their current model may be impressed to hear Ford has been named the number one light commercial vehicle (LCV) producer in the UK.

The company drove away with the title of Van Manufacturer of the Year at the Fleet Van Awards.

Commercial vehicle director Steve Kimber expressed delight at the honour, adding the firm's determination to keep evolving its range must have paid off.

"We know that Ford vans are famed for their reliability and cost of ownership - and to have this recognised by real users is always rewarding," he said.

The decision of the judges was based on research conducted by Fleet News, which took into account the performance of about 169,000 vehicles.

According to Fleet Van magazine, the awards they hand out are intended to reflect the growing importance of the role LCVs play in the UK's economy.

In other news, Ford Transits demonstrated best-in-class fuel consumption and the lowest cost per mile at this year's MPG Marathon.
