27 November 2008 Extra training 'could reduce work-related car insurance claims'
The number of work-related car insurance claims could be reduced if employees received advanced training, according to Mercedes-Benz World. It claimed it may be possible to prevent some 55,000 accidents, if workers who get behind the wheel in the course of their employment were given additional instruction.
The organisation highlighted figures from the Department for Transport which showed 27 per cent of all UK crashes involve individuals who are making a work-related journey or commute.
In response to this fact, Mercedes-Benz World has decided to introduce a course for firms who want to improve their employees' driving skills.
Commenting on the need for advanced training for workers, spokesperson Peter O'Halloran said: "Driving is potentially one of the most dangerous things we do and time pressures, meetings and deadlines can be especially distracting when driving for work."
Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz World recently pledged to reduce the number of road deaths caused by traffic collisions involving young drivers.
