Van insurance customers are still as impressed with the Fiat Ducato as ever, the manufacturer has claimed.

The company made this statement as the two-millionth vehicle in the range left the factory at Seval in Val de Sangro, Italy.

First produced in 1981, Fiat said the model has enjoyed "sustained popularity".

The manufacturer highlighted 1994 as a turning point in the van's history.

It explained at this point the second generation van was released and customers no longer regarded the Ducato as a single basic model but a series of different vehicles specialised for a variety of payloads and operations.

Gerry Clarke from Fiat said: "The Ducato story proves that a well-designed and built vehicle can stay one step ahead of the competition year after year."

He continued the company was committed to keeping up its innovative tradition in order to meet the needs of all its customers.
