24 November 2008 Sergeant 'could have quit over car insurance worries'

Car insurance Another theory on the real reason behind John Sergeant's departure from Strictly Come Dancing has come to light.

Confused.com has suggested he may have been concerned about his car insurance premiums.

The website said if Sergeant had stayed on the TV show and become a professional dancer he could have seen his annual comprehensive cover rise by £124.75, compared to when he was a journalist.

Research by the organisation has uncovered there can be substantial discrepancies in insurance quotes, even for seemingly similar jobs.

It pointed out the difference in the price for annual comprehensive cover for a singer and an entertainer could be as much as £223.

Commenting on the findings, Will Thomas, head of motor insurance with Confused.com, said: "It is certainly true that using different ways to describe a person's occupation could dramatically reduce their premiums, although it is important not to confuse being savvy with being dishonest."

In other news, Confused.com claimed drivers needed to protect their cars from the effects of winter weather if they want to reduce their chances of having to make a car insurance claim.
