18 November 2008 Motorists 'need to remove all signs of their satnav'

Satnav People with comprehensive car insurance who want to keep their no-claims bonus intact should wipe away marks left by satnavs, one industry body has stated.

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) warned if thieves have any reason to suspect a vehicle might contain a satnav they are more likely to target that motor.

Spokesman Vince Yearly said removing a navigation system is not enough, drivers need to wipe away any tell-tale signs on the windscreen.

He also suggested motorists refrain from programming their home address into their satnav.

Mr Yearly explained, if a thief gets hold of these types of personal details, "not only do they know where you live, they know you are not there and they can navigate their way using your satnav to your home and possibly burgle it".

In related news, IAM previously advised drivers to make sure their satnav does not obstruct their view of the road.
