17 November 2008 Brits going on long trips 'should check their home insurance'

Home insurance As this year's batch of I'm a Celebrity contestants settle down to life in the Australian jungle, Confused.com has claimed if the participants have any sense they will have checked their home insurance policy before leaving.

The website stated anyone planning an extended break away needs to ensure the belongings they are leaving behind are covered for the entirety of their stay.

It explained most home insurance policies state that, in order to make a claim, properties should not be left unoccupied for 30 consecutive days or more.

Spokesperson Darren Black said Brits planning a long holiday need to "make sure that there is someone staying in the house at some point while they are away to make sure homeowners do not inadvertently invalidate their cover".

Meanwhile, Confused.com recently reported as we enter winter people are more likely to end up making a home insurance claim as a result of damage caused by heating appliances, fires and burglaries.
