14 November 2008 Award-winning iQ could be cost-effective choice

Toyota iQ People who are looking for a new vehicle which will help them cut car insurance and road tax costs may be tempted to take a look at Toyota's latest model after the vehicle scooped an award.

The iQ has been named Japan's 2008 car of the year, beating models such as the Audi A4, Jaguar XF and Citroen C5.

With carbon emissions of 99 g/km, the vehicle will be exempt from road tax in the UK and, as it has a relatively small engine, it may well qualify for cheap motor insurance.

Judges for the Japanese competition said they had been particularly impressed by the car's design and space efficiency.

Priced from £9,495 on the road, the car will go on sale in the UK on January 6th 2009.

Toyota recently reported even the entry-level version would include a comprehensive list of standard equipment, including a six-speaker audio system, air conditioning, 15-inch alloy wheels and heated electrically-adjustable door mirrors.
