14 November 2008 Drivers 'should be able to get great discounts on new cars'
Motorists who fear they may end up having to make a car insurance claim if they do not trade in their old banger soon should be able to negotiate a great deal on a new vehicle, according to What Car?.The magazine has said the discounts being offered by dealers are at an eight-year high.
Research by the publication revealed on average customers were managing to get £1,932 knocked off the advertised price of new cars.
It pointed out this is a saving of £244, compared with the beginning of the year.
Steve Fowler, What Car? editor, said motorists should be able to get a bargain, regardless of their haggling skills.
"With so few people dipping into their pockets, sales staff will be almost begging buyers to make an offer," he added.
Meanwhile, for people after a second hand model, What Car? recently named the Ford Focus as its used car of the year 2008.
