12 November 2008 Ditching servicing could lead to a car insurance claim
Motorists should avoid the temptation to skip their vehicle's annual service if they do not want to end up shelling out more money for repairs or even making a car insurance claim, it is has been suggested.Motor Codes claimed the credit crunch means times are hard for some drivers, but added neglecting a car's maintenance is a false economy.
According to the group, although an average service costs £125, repairs for a neglected vehicle can be significantly more expensive.
The organisation stated owners of used cars needed to be even more vigilant if they wanted to keep their motors running smoothly.
Motor Codes director Chris Mason warned: "If you don't carry out scheduled maintenance or fail to have repairs carried out promptly, you could eventually end up paying more."
People looking for a garage to carry out their annual service may take comfort in the fact a new code of practice for such businesses was launched earlier this year.
