10 November 2008 Safety device could see car insurance claims fall
The number of comprehensive car insurance claims made by people buying the revised Ford Fiesta could fall as the result of a new safety device.Gentex has revealed its auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror is to feature in Ford's next generation model across Europe.
According to the company, the innovation darkens automatically to prevent drivers being dazzled by the glare of car lights approaching from behind.
It claimed the mirror will be standard on the Ghia and Titanium trim levels of the Fiesta.
The product is already available on the Focus model.
Commenting on the news that the Fiesta would soon feature the product, Enoch Jen, senior vice president at Gentex, said: "We are very pleased that Ford recognises the importance of the auto-dimming feature in the European market."
Last month, it was revealed all trim levels of the updated 2009 Honda Civic would also offer the safety device as an option.
