10 November 2008 Third party insurance customers 'can save money without buying a new car'
Drivers of used cars with third party insurance who do not want to shell out for a new vehicle and comprehensive cover can make savings on fuel by changing the way they drive, the Act on CO2 campaign has advised.According to the initiative, behaviour behind the wheel can be just as important as the model you own when it comes to fuel economy.
Tim Anderson from the Energy Saving Trust - spokesperson for Act on CO2 - said it is not necessary to buy a new car in order to make savings at the pump.
He suggested motorists make the effort to drive smoothly, stick to the speed limit and keep their tyres pumped up in order to improve fuel efficiency.
Mr Anderson stated: "For this campaign we are just saying to use smarter driving and you can save quite a considerable amount."
A study by the Energy Saving Trust and the British School of Motoring found road users could cut their fuel bills by about £6 billion a year by changing their habits behind the wheel.
