06 November 2008 Drivers advised to prepare cars for winter
Motorists have been urged to perform maintenance on their cars before winter - action which may reduce car insurance premiums. Kwik-Fit is encouraging people to avoid becoming a "Dipstic" - Driver in Poor State to Inspect Cars - after research revealed 40 per cent of motorists admitted they had below-average car maintenance skills.
The study found 20 per cent of drivers could not check and refill oil levels, with the figure doubling to 40 per cent for coolant.
One in ten drivers was not able to open their car's bonnet, it was also revealed.
David White, customer services director at Kwik-Fit, reminded drivers of the importance of properly maintaining a car, especially with winter around the corner.
"With winter approaching it's even more important for cars to be in tip-top condition as they will have to deal with trickier road conditions where poor maintenance can have serious consequences," he said.
Today, the Swedish Trade Council is to hold a seminar on road safety as part of a collaboration with the Danish government, according to reports.
