04 November 2008 Drivers offered advice on stress-free driving

Don't let driving stress you out Driving can be a stressful experience for many people, but an organisation is offering advice on staying calm on the roads.

Breathing exercises, careful planning and making the car a comfortable environment can help remove the stress of traffic jams and inconsiderate drivers, according to Europcar.

To support National Stress Awareness Day, the rental company has recommended taking steps such as getting adequate rest before a journey, playing music or audio books and ensuring the seat is in a comfortable driving position.

Catriona Lougher, marketing director for the organisation, explained. "The more stressed and angry drivers become, the more likely they are to make rash decisions and run the risk of an accident."

Drivers can be risking high blood pressure, back pain and headaches as well as long-term problems by getting stressed at the wheel, she added.

Car insurance customers can also help protect themselves during an accident by wearing a seatbelt, a new Think! campaign shows.
