03 November 2008 New seatbelt campaign launched

 The importance of wearing a seatbelt is the focus of a new THINK! campaign launched today by the Department for Transport (DfT).

According to new statistics, one life could be saved every day if all passengers wore one in cars.

Research found that some people are failing to belt up 100 per cent of the time, risking serious injury or death.

Therefore, the DfT has produced a television advert showing graphic images of internal organs which are fatally damaged due to an accident.

"I hope this hard-hitting new campaign will help everyone realise that they are risking their life whenever they get in a car and don't put their seatbelt on," said road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick.

This year sees THINK! Launch separate advertising campaigns for adults and children, highlighting the difference between developing bad habits and changing those of experienced drivers.

It has always aimed to encourage and reinforce safe and considerate road use.
