31 October 2008 Smart driving 'can cut costs'
People who are finding buying a car, paying for motor insurance and covering the cost of fuel and maintenance a financial strain could save money by making use of eco-friendly driving techniques, the British School of Motoring (BSM) has claimed.According to road safety consultant Robin Cummins, some simple tips can help drivers spend less at the pump.
He explained motorists who pull up in the gear in which they are driving reduce the amount of fuel they use.
Mr Cummins also said people who make the effort to plan ahead so they can slow down by removing their foot from the accelerator rather than slamming on the brakes can make significant savings.
In addition, motorists who adopt these techniques will be doing their bit for the environment, he pointed out.
"If you are using less fuel then obviously not only are you saving money, you are also reducing CO2 emissions as well," Mr Cummins stated.
