31 October 2008 Pet insurance 'particularly important on bonfire night'

Fireworks Bonfire night could end up being an expensive event for animal lovers without pet insurance, according to the Fair Investment Company.

A recent poll by the group found 74 per cent of people did not have cover for their furry friends.

The company warned pet owners who did not take out insurance could end up regretting that decision in the coming weeks.

It highlighted RSPCA data which showed there were some 682 reported incidents of animals being treated for distress and injuries between October and November in 2004.

Fair Investment Company spokesperson Rachael Stiles said: "Fireworks can cause extreme anxiety for pets, which could lead to illnesses such as depression and fatigue which may need a vet's attention."

She pointed out most pet insurance will offer some help towards vet's fees and treatment for such symptoms.

In related news, the Fair Investment Company has previously advised people who receive an animal for Christmas to seriously consider getting cover.
