28 October 2008 Van drivers who do not check tyres 'are treading dangerously'

Tyre check Drivers who do not want to end up making a claim on their van insurance should ensure they have sufficient tread on their tyres, according to one road safety group.

TyreSafe has stated before rain levels increase motorists should take the opportunity to check their tyres are in tip-top condition.

The group highlighted figures from the Department for Transport which showed last year November saw the highest number of personal injury accidents.

Commenting on why motorists tend to get in trouble, chairman of TyreSafe Rob Beddis said: "When the rainfall increases they often find themselves in a situation where the tyres have insufficient tread depth to disperse the water from the road surface properly."

He explained this resulted in loss of grip and longer stopping distances which cause accidents.

TyreSafe has also advised van drivers to check their tyre pressure at least once a month if they want to avoid a motor insurance claim.
