22 October 2008 Under-inflated tyres 'can lead to serious accidents'

Tyre pressure Women drivers who fail to test their tyre pressure on a regular basis may have more to worry about than making a claim on their car insurance, TyreSafe has suggested.

The organisation said motorists are putting themselves at risk because they are not taking time out to conduct checks on a regular basis.

Chairman Rob Beddis stated under-inflated tyres can affect the way a car behaves and he warned drivers may not know there is a problem until it is too late.

"The first time they may become aware of this performance deficit could be when they lose control of the vehicle," he explained.

Mr Beddis said all motorists needed to take tyres and their maintenance seriously.

Earlier this month, TyreSafe reported that motorists who ensure their tyres are inflated to the level recommended by the manufacturer may find it reduced their fuel consumption as well as keeping them safe.
