Motorists who are confident their provider will pay up in the event of an accident because they have comprehensive car insurance still need to ensure their vehicles are well-maintained, the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) has claimed. The group said if drivers fail to take adequate care of their motors and are then involved in a collision, insurers could refuse to pay up.
Graeme Trudgill from Biba commented: "If your vehicle is in a dangerous condition, if it hasn't got an MOT and things like that, questions will be asked."
He added, as winter approaches, it is particularly important to check cars are safe and reliable as roads can be icy and wet which means crashes are more commonplace.
Mr Trudgill concluded by saying if people have been sensible they should not encounter problems when making a claim.
Elsewhere, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has suggested now is a good time for motorists to get their cars serviced, as winter is just around the corner.
