21 October 2008 Blue Badge system 'to be overhauled'

Disabled parking to be overhauled Motor insurance customers - who have had to make a claim after being targeted by thieves looking to steal their Blue Badge - may welcome an announcement from the government that the scheme is to be overhauled.

Some £55 million has been set aside to crackdown on abuse of the system and ensure the disabled parking initiative is effective for those who need it most.

Transport minister Paul Clark stated the government intended to update the scheme so it meets the needs of the 21st century.

He added: "With forged or stolen badges reportedly being sold on the black market for up to £1,500 a time, it is time to get tough and stop Blue Badge abuse."

Meanwhile, those car insurance customers who are looking to save costs by leaving their motor at home more often may be interested to hear the government is spending £25 million on improving bus services in England.
