20 October 2008 Used car buyers are 'going green'
A growing number of used car buyers are opting for greener models in a bid to cut costs, a new study has revealed.Research by EurotaxGlass's found 38 per cent of people looking at purchasing a second hand vehicle were planning to downsize in order to save money on fuel and road tax.
Some 29 per cent of those questioned said they were thinking about converting to a diesel car in the hope they would reduce the amount they spent at the pump.
People buying a greener vehicle may also find their motor insurance premiums fall, as a number of environmentally-friendly vehicles have smaller engines.
Commenting on the change in buying behaviour, Adrian Rushmore from EurotaxGlass's said: "This new survey illustrates how attitudes towards high-polluting cars are hardening."
However, he stated opting for a diesel model was not necessarily the answer as it would cost more in the first place and drivers may not make their money back in fuel savings for years.
