Motorists with large families who are keen to do their bit for the environment may want to take a look at the Touran and Sharan from Volkswagen.

The manufacturer has just revealed the two models have joined its BlueMotion range - a name given to its most efficient passenger cars.

Volkswagen has made changes to the bodies, engines, tyres and drivetrains of the motors in order to increase economy and reduce carbon emissions.

It claimed the models are now "among the most efficient seven-seater vehicles on the market".

According to the manufacturer, the Touran is capable of achieving 52.3 mpg and has carbon emissions of 144 g/km, while the Sharan offers owners 47.1 mpg and emits 159 g/km of CO2.

Volkswagen also stated the cars include an impressive list of equipment as standard.

In other news, the manufacturer recently announced it had introduced a new entry-level specification and two additional engine choices to the Scirocco coupe.
