Van insurance customers looking to save money may want to invest in a Citroen Nemo, the manufacturer has claimed.

This comes after the model was recognised as the UK's most fuel-efficient light commercial vehicle (LCV) after achieving 84.09 mpg in the 2008 ALD Automotive/Total Excellium MPG Marathon.

In September, the Nemo was named International Van of the Year 2009.

Commenting on the model's latest achievement, Citroen's commercial vehicle operations manager Robert Handyside said: "With the accolade as the UK's most fuel-efficient van ... the Nemo is truly the van for today's current tough economic conditions."

Potential buyers may also be interested to hear the vehicle was carrying half its gross payload during the marathon in a bid to recreate a real-life scenario.

The Nemo took the title of most fuel-efficient van in Britain from its sister vehicle - the C2 Enterprise.

Last month, Citroen was named GreenFleet LCV Manufacturer of the Year.
