02 October 2008 First iQ deliveries 'due in January'

Toyota iQ Drivers who are thinking about trading in their current vehicle for a smaller model in an attempt to reduce their comprehensive car insurance premiums may be interested to know that Toyota's new city car is available to order in the UK.

The first deliveries of the iQ are expected to take place next January.

Despite being three metres in length, Toyota insisted it has not compromised in terms of space, driving fun or comfort.

Motorists keen to cut costs may also be pleased to hear that the vehicle produces less than 100 grams of CO2 per kilometre, meaning that road tax will be free.

The final production version of the iQ will make its debut at this month's Paris Motor Show.

Chief engineer Hiroli Nakajima said the vehicle is likely to appeal to "post-modern people who demonstrate independence in their choice of lifestyle and values".

Earlier this week, Toyota revealed the iQ would feature an airbag designed to protect backseat passengers in the event of a rear-end collision.
