An accolade handed out to Citroen may simply confirm what many van insurance customers were already aware of.

The company has been named light commercial vehicle (LCV) manufacturer of the year in the 2008 Green Fleet Awards.

According to the judging panel, the introduction of its Airdream programme demonstrates the commitment of Citroen Vans to the environment.

The programme includes using advanced catalyst technology, dual fuel vehicles and Trafficmaster's integrated driving solution and has been implemented as standard across the whole of the company's LCV range.

Using the Trafficmaster product gives Citroen access to a number of tools including satellite navigation, stolen vehicle tracking and real time traffic reports.

The technology reportedly allows businesses to save money and cut their CO2 emissions by helping drivers avoid congestion and take quicker routes.

Last month, the Nemo – Citroen's compact high cube vehicle – was awarded the title of International Van of the Year 2009.
